The blog hop and giveaway are long over, but those books we love linger in our hearts and minds.
If I asked you what books you were grateful you read, you'd be able to name them instantly. You probably have one or two...or a dozen of these books. They're the ones on your Keepers Shelf; the ones that you stayed up all night to finish; the ones you go back to again and again.
I have quite a few. Let me share just two of the most dear to me.
Everyday Sacred: A Woman's Journey Home. by Sue Bender
Sue Bender shares her journey into our world of "Never enough" to find a way of living with "just enough". I learned about the "begging bowl" that monks take with them every morning--empty. Whatever is placed in the bowl during the day becomes their sustenance. At the beginning of every day, they start again with an empty bowl That powerful metaphor for life has stayed with me since I read this over 10 years ago.
Airs Above the Ground. by Mary Stewart
Vanessa March, two years married and very much in love, is propelled from London to Vienna by a shocking discovery--her husband is not where he said he would be. I went through my "Mary Stewart" period while I was in college and read every one of her books I could find in the public library. This is mystery, romance and a tale woven around the famous Lipizzaner horses. I have an original copy of this book in hardcover, and I still curl up with it when the evenings grow long and the fire is warm.
